About MC Yallah

The multilingual queen of electronic hip hop, MC Yallah is internationally renowned for her intricate rapping style and electrifying live performances.

Described as having a voice as powerful as Public Enemy’s Chuck D, the global star has graced stages in more than twenty countries spanning five continents.

Switching effortlessly between English, Kiswahili, Luo and Lugandan languages, she says: “Music speaks to the hearts of the people. Even if they don’t understand, it’s the impact that I leave on them.”

MC Yallah’s journey began the early 2000’s in Uganda’s frenetic capital Kampala, the city she was raised in.

Inspired by The Fugee’s Lauryn Hill, the young rapper was a rare female force in a male dominated scene, her style forged in the fire of street cyphers and seedy clubs.

Connecting with the Ugandan-based label Nyege Nyege in 2015, MC Yallah has since risen to become one of Africa’s top hip hop artists and a legitimate global star.

After her breakout single ‘Kubali’ went viral, MC Yallah has featured at festivals such as Glastonbury, WOMAD and Roskilde, and released three full length albums.

Fierce and intense, her futuristic style combines hip-hop, grime, punk, trap and electronica, as she continues to break musical boundaries with producers such as Debmaster, Scotch Rolex and DJ Krush.

Her most recent album Gaudencia was ranked in Bandcamp’s Best Albums of 2025 and received global critical acclaim.

Drawing on her proud Kenyan heritage and Ugandan upbringing, MC Yallah’s punchy lyrics reflect real-life experiences of poverty and politics, and as an independent African woman and mother.
